      Bad Boys

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Bad Boys stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have enjoyable chemistry; unfortunately, director Michael Bay too often drowns it out with set pieces and explosions in place of an actual story.

Michael Rechtshaffen Hollywood Reporter ... the pairing of Martin Lawrence and Will Smith generates a winning comic chemistry. Apr 9, 2019 Full Review Michael Wilmington Chicago Tribune Haven't we seen this all before? Four or five dozen times? Rated: 2/4 Mar 29, 2019 Full Review Sheila Johnston Independent (UK) You may rest assured that whenever a glass object hoves into view, it will be shattered in slo-mo by the end of the scene. Mar 29, 2019 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania Casting Martin Lawrence and Will Smith resulted in a comedy gold and their buddy-cop chemistry clicks the moment they appear on-screen, bickering and dissing each other. Rated: 3.5/5 May 30, 2024 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn I don't understand how this wasn't critically well-received when it came out but it's very entertaining. Rated: 4/5 Jan 8, 2023 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn This movie is still hilarious with timeless jokes. The chemistry with the two black leads is unmatched. This is a classic. Norberto A Absolutely hilarious I love this movie 10 out of 10 comedy and serious scenes Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Donna B You know what you are getting when you watch this movie. Good or bad! I thought it was good! American humour in overload, and people laughing at parts that were not even amusing! I put it down to young girls trying to laugh only to make a good impression on their dates… I don;t think it will ever be love! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Cj P Solid movie to kick off a great franchise. The chemistry between the two leads is impeccable and it’s so damn entertaining Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Laze T Just a bloody classic and deserves nothing less then a 3 stars Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Random M This is the first bad boys made and it will be the greatest out of all 4 of them. It takes to serious/comedians and put them in an action film. It’s two cops in Miami and they are detectives and they find a case where they fight like a married couple but great with each other. They have to keep a witness alive to get the bad guy in the shirt of it. But this makes a start of greatness franchises. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Dave B The collective IQ and aesthetic appeal of Will Smith and Tea Leoni elevates a would-be slog into an enjoyable event. Too bad Tea Leoni didnt return. Will Smith, who had the opportunity to attend MIT, and Tia Leoni, whose father was a prominent lawyer in a NYC powerhouse firm, are no morally bankrupt dimwits, unlike the cast in most of Michael Bay's movies which are typically hard to watch, especially years later when the cast shows their true colors (WS has had some ups and downs, but many attribute that to his relationship with his morally bankrupt spouse, and he sometimes comes across too arrogant in movies, but thankfully not this time around).
