      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It doesn't take its terrific premise quite as far as it should, but Splice is a smart, well-acted treat for horror fans.

Hank Sartin Time Out Rated: 2/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Perri Nemiroff Shockya.com Fascinating and exciting yet disturbing and potentially upsetting. Rated: 4/5 Aug 13, 2010 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) I love the character of Dren, which is nerd spelt backwards. I loved the relationship between her and her putative parents: Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 11, 2010 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Gets points for being bizarre and incorporating evocative body-horror elements, though the story itself doesn't offer up anything substantial. Rated: 2/5 Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review In concept alone, not to mention the first exciting half-hour, the film promises greatness before failing to live up to those promises with a second half that feels emotionally disengaged and a finale that’s rushed. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 18, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Splice invents new nightmares with Dren. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 19, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Jelisije J Scientist creates monsters, monsters go bad, and we got a decent scfy horror flick that is just fine to pass the time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Ben W One of the top 5 worst movies I've ever seen, easily. The acting is terrible, the characters are stupid and make incoherent and inconsistent decisions, and the sex stuff is just effed up and so gross...I mean seriously, wtf. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review alan g A rip off of Species. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Arthur B A daring and unique genre splitting picture, everything in Splice was very well done and definitely would have benefited from more of it. Considering this is an independent film with a limited budget, it's a very good sci-fi with top notch visual effects. The end feels rushed most likely because they ran out of money and it's almost annoying how close it came to achieving greatness, but it's believable and fascinating throughout however people expecting to be terrified or truly freaked out will probably be disappointed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Sylvie C Avoid this movie at all costs. Awful acting, disturbing concepts and images that stick with you, and just a really long convoluted "message" about the dangers of scientific experimentation that could have been summed up better in a more powerful, less gross way. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review Jane J So gross, love it. It's actually kinda hot… weird. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
