American actor Liv Tyler became best known for her roles in "Armageddon" (1998), "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001-03), and the HBO series "The Leftovers" (HBO, 2014-17). Although it's common knowledge that Liv Tyler's father was the Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, Liv Tyler grew up thinking her birth father was 70s rocker Todd Rundgren. Her mother was Bebe Buell, a model and former Playboy Playmate who was in a relationship with Rundgren throughout the 1970s. Buell had a brief affair with Steven Tyler in the mid-1970s and got unexpectedly pregnant. She gave birth to Tyler's daughter, Liv, in East Harlem, New York on July 1, 1977. Although Liv was not his child by birth, Todd Rundgren decided to care for her like a father and even signed her birth certificate, thus giving her the name Liv Rundgren. Liv grew up thinking that Todd Rundgren was her dad until a chance meeting with Steven Tyler at the age of 10 made her suspect that the Aerosmith frontman was in fact her father. Her mother, Bebe Buell, ultimately admitted to the fact that Tyler was her birth father, and after forming a close bond with Tyler, Liv officially changed her surname to match his. Throughout it all, however, Liv maintained a close and loving relationship with her adoptive father, Todd Rundgren. After her family business was sorted out, Tyler began modeling professionally at the age of 14. She quickly grew bored with modeling, however, and turned her attention exclusively to acting. Tyler first became known to TV audiences for her role in the music video for the Aerosmith song "Crazy." Tyler starred alongside Alicia Silverstone in the video, which received heavy airplay on MTV upon its premiere in 1994. After the success of "Crazy" Tyler turned her attention to film acting, and earned widespread praise for her roles in films like "Heavy" (1995), "Empire Records" (1995), and "That Thing You Do!" (1996). Then in 1998 Tyler landed her breakout performance in Michael Bay's action film "Armageddon." Tyler played the love interest of Ben Affleck's character in the film, which would go on to become the highest grossing film of 1998. With her career on the upswing, Tyler nabbed another breakout role in 2001 when she was cast in director Peter Jackson's fantasy epic "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001). Tyler played the elf maid Arwen in the film, and went on to reprise her role as the character in both sequels, released in 2002 and 2003, respectively. After "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy ended in 2003, Tyler continued building her reputation as a respected actress with commendable roles in films "Reign Over Me" (2007), "The Incredible Hulk" (2008), and "Robot & Frank" (2012). In 2014 Tyler made her first foray into TV with a role on the HBO mystery series "The Leftovers." The series was a critical darling, and ran for three seasons on the premium cable network. After "The Leftovers" ended Tyler was cast on the period series "Harlots" (Hulu, 2017- ), and additionally nabbed a supporting role alongside Brad Pitt in the space drama "Ad Astra" (2019). In October of 2019 it was announced that Tyler would be starring in the drama series "9-1-1: Lone Star" (Fox, 2020- ). The series, which was a spin-off of Fox procedural series "9-1-1" (Fox, 2018- ), premiered on the network in early 2020, and also starred veteran film and TV actor Rob Lowe.
