Peter Macon was an American actor who broke out in late 2017 when he joined the cast of the Seth MacFarlane sci-fi comedy series "The Orville" (Fox, 2017- ). Macon grew up in a middle class family in Minneapolis, but always dreamt of becoming an actor. After high school he traveled West to attend the San Francisco Art Institute. Macon studied acting while attending the school, and it was there that he first fell in love with theater. Upon earning his BFA from the school, he decided to continue his education by attending the prestigious Yale School of Drama. Macon appeared in numerous Shakespearean plays while attending Yale, and eventually went on to receive an MFA. Upon graduating from Yale Macon relocated to New York City and quickly began earning praise for his various theatrical roles both on Broadway and Off. In addition to theater acting, Macon also began working as a voice-over artist for video games in the mid-90s. He voiced parts in the popular video games "Twisted Metal 2: World Tour" (1996) and "Cool Boarders 2" (1997). By the early 2000s Macon was also landing parts in films and on television shows. He nabbed a supporting role in the 2003 film "Numb," in addition to landing guest spots on shows like "Without a Trace" (CBS, 2002-09), "Supernatural" (The CW, 2005- ), and "Dexter" (Showtime, 2006-2013). In the 2010s Macon's screen acting career continued to rise. He landed parts in the films "Friendship!" (2010) and "The Secrets of Emily Blair" (2016), as well as a recurring role on the dramedy "Shameless" (Showtime, 2011- ) in 2016. After a long 20-plus year career in Hollywood, Macon nabbed the most substantial role of his career in late 2017 when he joined the cast of "The Orville." The series was created by Seth MacFarlane of "Family Guy" (Fox, 1999- ), and debuted on Fox in the fall of 2017.
