The Bikeriders Reviews
An almost ethnographic study of a niche group whose romantic prime was short-lived and, like so many other American institutions in this era, corrupted by the influence of power and greed, and then ruined by battles for control

What is beyond any of these men, but not beyond writer-director Jeff Nichols, is that whatever code they think they live by breeds violence. Their best friends commit violence against each other, but excluding a violent person can be even more dangerous.

The whole isn't quite as interesting as the sum of its parts, is another way to put it. The parts, though, are quite good on their own.

Nichols' writing deftly conveys both the ecstasy of belonging and the inevitability of dissolution. Nothing lasts forever, same as it ever was.

Offers an intriguing surface-level look at this subculture with top-notch production design and a terrific ensemble immersing themselves in this world, but the characters and story are stuck in the mud

Butler is pure magnetism in The Bikeriders, and though the movie matches his energy for a while, everything gradually becomes burdened by story.

It is an anthropological drama that never cracks its subjects open – an approach that might work on paper, but feels beset by engine troubles on-screen.

More of a slow burn than a thrill-ride, this study of bygone motorhead mentality at its most visceral and violent is gorgeously shot — but only nicks the surface.

…rambles around too much, trying patience, and Austin Butler never achieves the Brando level mystery Benny’s character calls for, leaving the conflict of the film’s triangle a blank.

While this film doesn’t measure up to becoming a new American magnum opus, it features strong enough performances and a solid perspective on the time period to deliver an entertaining ride.

It's the coolest-looking movie of the year, even if it slightly runs out of gas towards the end.

A well-oiled cinematic machine that takes us on a smooth ride of discovery and elevated melodrama. [Full Review in Spanish]

Although the feeling of missed opportunities is never fully shaken, it all still makes for a solid hang.

The Bikeriders is worth watching but never enters the realm of truly great cinema.

Nichols’ classic filmmaking sensibilities are a peculiar fit with the required grubbiness that comes with characters who work on and ride custom motorcycles as a hobby.

A satisfactory but surface-deep lens into a volatile West.

"The Bikeriders" may not be the most elegantly told story, but there's so much power and pathos to be found here

It’s wax museum cinema: accurate to the eye, but also uncanny and bloodless. With The Bikeriders, Nichols has transformed danger and rebellion into something palatable to a wide audience, easily bottled and sold on shelves.

Nichols carefully avoids either demonizing or overly romanticizing his protagonists’ lifestyles. He portrays events just the way he imagines they would unfold.

Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders delights in its cadre of rugged bikers and the dramas that come from their riding club. Yet, the joy of the film comes from seeing this world through Kathy (Jodie Comer), the wife of renegade rider Benny (Austin Butler).
