Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Reviews
The new characters just didn't really hit me in the soul like the other ones did... The storyline was solid enough.

With awe-inspiring visuals, breath taking action sequences, uncanny CGI and underlying smarts, this prequel/sequel is a worthy addition to the canon

The film’s gorgeously shot and boasts some imaginative world building, but there’s a lot going on, perhaps too much.

A thrilling film. Man against beast, but in this universe, who is considered a man and who is the beast?

At 2 hours 25 minutes, Kingdom could have benefitted from tighter editing. Despite plenty of exciting confrontations and action sequences, for every step forward, the story takes two steps back into a lull.

Compelling even while holding no real surprises.

...a sluggish and mostly uninvolving misfire...

Apes have never been stronger in Wes Bell's magnificent Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes! The complexities of Caesar's legacy loom large but twisted in this coming-of-age odyssey of truth and lies, knowledge and power. A breathtaking visual feast!

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the strongest entry in the modern franchise, and a worthy successor to the recent reign of Caesar.

Ball, working from a script by Josh Friedman, has created a full world in “Kingdom,” with truly whole (and dynamic) characters that make for an excellent story combined with the usual mix of nihilism and hope that is found in every “Apes” movie.

This type of lavish fantasy is no more a cinematic provocation.

Matt Reeves’ cinematic flair is missing in this film. Still, it’s an entertaining entry and sets things up quite nicely for the inevitable next film.

Kingdom is the episode of the series that we didn't know we needed, distinguished by a powerfully set scene, more than decent level acting and a narrative proposal worth appreciating. [Full review in Spanish]

The early part of the story spends so much time introducing us to the lead chimp, Noa (Owen Teague), and the rest of his clan, that I half expected David Attenborough to appear from behind a tree and start explaining the nature of their community.

“Kingdom” aims for some sort of anti-fascism and anti-gun statement. But the film tramples on its own undeveloped ideas when it suddenly become a large-scale actioner. It’s as if the studio had a carnage meter that had to hit 11 before fadeout.

Visually stunning and backed by a solid story, I went bananas for this film, so I'll give it an A-.

The series’ best installment since 2011.

The action sequences are thrilling, and Ball always makes sure they are in service of progressing the plot and not just spectacle for spectacle’s sake.

While it does a decent job, it doesn't match the excitement of Apes past. The effects are great but it lost a little human touch. It also takes a little too long to get there, too. Strong ending, but it drags its knuckles a little too much along the way.

In some places the film is exciting, in others not so much. [Full review in Spanish]
