Ezra Reviews
It's very amusing when it's amusing, but really heart wrenching when it's heart-wrenching.

Granted, it leans on clichés here and there... but considering the alternative, a layered neurodivergent character can be considered progress.

A film that nevertheless deserves to be seen and discussed.

Rightfully so, the prevailing message of Ezra becomes seeing your kid’s needs and celebrating their strengths, no matter the traits or labels.

Despite the film’s title and Fitzgerald hitting a long ball in his big-screen debut, this is Cannavale’s film.

This film, full of painful scenes of self-destructive excess, is worth it as well, partially because of the outstanding performance of 15-year-old William Fitzgerald, an autistic young man in real life, who does a remarkable job as the title character.

Autism has proliferated since the 1990s. The very fine "Ezra" puts a human face on the situation and sets up the coming Big Pharma exposé doc "Protocol 7."

What’s so mind-boggling about this film is that if not for the kidnapping/restraining order/Amber Alert part, this same story would be touching and affecting.

The sort of movie that can actually teach people something about an issue without being only recommendable as education, which is far from easy and worth the effort.

The film’s murky moral is buried by its lackluster plot which hits its stops on the road trip without true purpose or intention.

Additional positive representation of autistic characters is needed in entertainment, and the well-made, well-acted, and well-informed Ezra is a worthy addition.

Spiridakis’ personal experiences can be felt through his movie’s sincerity. And I appreciate his willingness to buck what many would say a movie about neurodiversity “should be”.

An incredible story about fathers and sons.

A well-acted gem.

All the performances are great, but this is one of the most ethically problematic movies I’ve seen in a while. It’s a movie about raising an autistic child where the father does not have the slightest clue how to raise an autistic child.

There are a lot of tales to be told about autism and this one decides to structure itself with the most well-known film of them all with the rarity of a lead character that we have to admit may not be fit to be a father.

The struggle between "cute" and "cloying" is real, and tends to blunt the emotional impact of the story. But Goldwyn's light touch ensures that the picture is never less than watchable

There are too many terrific actors in 'Ezra" for the movie to be terrible, but that’s not for lack of trying.

While the script meanders at times, Goldwyn's sensitive direction and the genuine father-son bond make this autism road trip dramedy a journey worth taking.

The initial section of the film...is imbued with a degree of candor about the family dynamic that’s honest and incisive. That’s why it’s so disappointing that in the latter stages it veers into issue-movie cliché and mawkishness.
