Godzilla Minus One Reviews
A gorgeously put together film in so many ways. Excellent acting, pacing, and CG action, and writing. It had me engaged throughout, and NOT just for whenever the big lizard showed up! Godzilla the monster was icing on the cake. It was also a drama featuring post-war narratives, the nature of family, cowardice, and redemption. If the monster was not included, this still would have been a great movie; but he was, so it's a terrific movie! And your draw will drop when you realize this quality of film was done on $15 million max and was two hours long! For comparison, a single 30 minute episode of Marvel's She Hulk cost $25 million a piece! Disney lost on that series big time, yet Godzilla is closing in on making back 10 times its budget at the time of this writing. Makes you wonder why Hollywood needs all that money for such mediocrity when excellence can apparently be had on the cheap.
Finally a Godzilla movie with a humane storyline, not just a bunch of humans running around doing stupid stuff while Godzilla destroys everything.
how on earth does this movie have a 98% rating for both critics & audience? this is one of the worst movies I've watched - godzilla looked impressive right away, but that changed pretty quickly. he was the best part of the whole thing, but moved a whopping 1 mile an hour & had a similar look/range as the plastic dinosaurs i had as a kid. i was super disappointed. would not recommend.
By far the best Godzilla movie I've seen in decades. It is absolutely a joy to watch, and the stories of the Japanese citizens is just as compelling as Godzilla's scenes.
Many scenes are contrived especially ones where characters die for ridiculous reasons.
Can’t believe how much Hollywood send on there Godzilla movies compared to this one. Definitely value for money what they done here!
A Cinematic Masterpiece. Yes it has all the basic stuff needed to make a excellent film per the story and the character development. But, they came up with a concept and executed it with perfection. A real work of art. My hats off to all involved in creating Godzilla -1
Ohh i love the movie the script is so different type and also From the beginning I wanted couple to have a happy ending and finally they had, all over Best Japanese movie ever for me
A well-crafted story of a man fighting his demons of war, and a great way to interpret Godzilla as a metaphor for the protagonists' conflict. Fantastic music, effects, writing and cast! Even if you're not a Godzilla fan, this movie is worth your time.
If you are a fan of the traditional Japanese Godzilla movies you will love this one. Very good movie.
Hate subtitles so I waited for the dubbed version. Reminded me of the Godzilla I grew up loving. Kept that horror aspect I was hoping that big budget monster verse films would stay with too. Great movie for old school fans
Genuinely a flawless movie. No Hollywood garbage, great story, all of it. My personal favorite scene was around thirty or forty five minutes in, where Godzilla is chasing the small boat. It really gave me some Jaws vibes! Another thing I love is that the whole thing feels so complete and meaningful. Every scene has a purpose. You should absolutely watch this!
Complete snooze fest. I do not understand the hype for this movie. We watched an hour and could take no more.
Simply brilliant, a Godzilla movie that’s not about Godzilla. Deep human themes of honor, shame, redemption. Who would have thought this in a Godzilla flick?! Special effects are still terrific, and Godzilla is disturbingly brutal. But in the likeness of great science fiction, the movie asks deep questions of the viewer and the world we live in. Questions about society, human nature. Rich and visually striking movie that deserves more.
Solid old school monster movie, honest and flawed. Oh so refreshing. In this genera, it is the best in in two decades.
"Godzilla Minus One" revitalizes the iconic monster's legacy with a poignant, visually stunning narrative that balances human drama with kaiju chaos.
I think a Godzilla movie was one of the last things many would consider the saving grace or even best movie of 2023, especially after the less character driven “Godzilla vs Kong” but alas it is not hard to see why many call this one of the best action movies in the past year, if not, of all time. And honestly, I agree with the people who say this is up there with terminator 2 and aliens. It appeals to all types of Godzilla and movie fans in my opinion. Want a movie that shows the torn state of Japan and the helplessness of the victims of Godzilla in a mature tone that isn’t rushed such as the original 1954 movie? Or a just want to see a big monster crumble a giant city and cause chaos like the current monsterverse like GvsK and GxK? I think minus one checks all of those boxes, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good dose of destruction and drama in their movies
