Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune Some films are destined for nervous laughter, with enough of a pungent aftertaste to linger. This is one of them. Rated: 3/4 May 3, 2024 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker Arnow’s poignant and original performance—refined in its awkwardness, exalted in its degradation, touched with grace in its rude self-presentation—is a double masterwork of acting and directing. Apr 29, 2024 Full Review Katie Rife RogerEbert.com Joanna Arnow’s second feature is a symphony of ambient embarrassment. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 26, 2024 Full Review Bill Arceneaux Moviegoing with Bill This is a sort of twist on the idealistic businesswoman seeking more in life movie, and maybe it’s a twist of a knife to the belly. A modern laugh-out-loud classic. Rated: 5/5 May 29, 2024 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review The performances are meant to seem somewhat flat, but that only seems to add to the movie’s expressive and distinct voice. Rated: 3/4 May 24, 2024 Full Review Christopher Lloyd The Film Yap Joanna Arnow's off-putting yet oddly compelling portrait of a woman drifting through life, from BDSM relationships to a stultifying corporate job to her bothersome family. James J. C It's not perfect but a very interesting character study. What we go through in order to get by! Disparate and desperate in equal measures. This kind of filmmaking needs to be commended and rewarded. I would urge you to see it with an open mind and ignore the reviews centered around the BDSM because it's a lot more then just that. Stayed with me for days afterwards Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Joe C A Dostoyevsky movie, in that all of the characters are unlikeable and you wait for the story to kick in until you realize there really isn't one. On the plus side, it's a courageous exercise in body and sex positivity for the writer/director/lead actor. Healthy self image and relationships, not so much.
