      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Frequently frightening even as it plays within the confines of a nearly 50-year-old film series, this prequel is The First Omen of a bright future for the franchise in quite some time.

      Audience Says

The First Omen has plenty of spooky atmosphere and some great performances, although if you aren't in the mood for a slow burn, the pace might be a deal-breaker.

Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) If you take into account that we don't need another Omen movie and Immaculate already did all of this better and without the need for a franchise, it's kind of okay and it's well directed. But it is rubbish. Apr 24, 2024 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Chicago Reader This is a heartfelt, angry film whose exploitation genre beats can’t conceal a core of real hurt, betrayal, accusation, and maybe even—in the suggestion of sisterhood and resistance—hope. Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) It’s a decent attempt from director Arkasha Stevenson to tap into the look and the spirit of the original film. And while it doesn’t match The Omen for scares, it does deliver some skin-crawlingly creepy moments. Rated: 3/5 Apr 7, 2024 Full Review Nestor Bentancor Nestor Cine Desde Hollywood An unchained cinematic beast that captures the spirit of the original horror classic, while leaving its own mark. [Full Review in Spanish] Jun 15, 2024 Full Review Jim Laczkowski Director's Club A genuine surprise. This is how a prequel should be (aside from the final minutes). Nell Tiger Free is fully committed here and this should cement her status as one of the most intriguing actors in horror working today. Rated: 4/5 Jun 10, 2024 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row A spooky air of gloom and dread hangs over the film, and Stevenson isn't afraid to explore the darkness at the heart of the concept Rated: 3/4 Jun 4, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Teresa W it was too many dry stops. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review David Very well written story with slight twist. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Loy Salarda A lot of jump scares and met the objectives of a horror film. But since I’ve already seen the entire Omen series prior to this, the scenes became very predictable especially the ending. Overall, an OK movie but I did like the storyline. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Ariel Absolutely horrifying. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review me In the first one his mother was born from a jackal……idk what this was but I left with more questions than answers Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Virginia B You know it’s interesting. I remember seeing the Real first The Omen, back in 1976 - and being somewhat the first of its kind it was shocking and folks were talking about it, because it was different. Let me get to the point… I really was expecting the worst. I mean anytime they have a prequel for whatever reason, they tend to fall short. This was a fairly decent movie, with pretty much everything that you would expect. Could it have been better? Of course - but it’s still good enough to see. I recommend it, if this is the type of themes you’re interested in. But you don’t have to hurry and see it in a theater. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
