While Ruth is eager to make sense of her family's past, Edek embarks on the trip with his own agenda. This emotional, funny culture clash of two New Yorkers exploring post-socialist Poland is a powerful example of how reconnecting with family and the past can be an unexpected treasure. While Stephen Fry and Lena Dunham provide some affecting moments as a father-daughter pair, Treasure's dramatic riches mostly remain buried.

Leaf Arbuthnot New Statesman Neither Fry nor Dunham manage to disappear into their roles; and the film never really springs to life, plodding from moment to moment with leaden feet. Jun 17, 2024 Full Review Alex Godfrey Empire Magazine It’s all a little too lightweight, and not above corniness and sentimentality, but it does earn its little emotional breakthroughs, modest as they are. Rated: 3/5 Jun 14, 2024 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com While Dunham and Fry are both first-rate performers, their respective personae — both public and on-screen — are difficult for them to fully transcend. Rated: 2/4 Jun 14, 2024 Full Review Bren Murphy RTÉ (Ireland) The film trundles along with some very jarring cuts, it never feels like it quite knows how to end a scene. Rated: 2/5 Jun 18, 2024 Full Review Patrick McDonald HollywoodChicago.com Dunham and Fry, and their chemistry, save this overly Deux Ex Machina story of a Holocaust survivor and his daughter coming to terms. The dreariness of the cinematography is also notable, with these strangers in a strange-but-familiar land. Lena is back! Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 17, 2024 Full Review Sarah Vincent InBetweenDrafts While Treasure sells a pat idea that genocidal, generational trauma can be healed in a single road trip to the scene of the crime, people do not always watch movies for realism, but as part of aspirational wishful thinking. DesignLady Well done small true story! Such a time in history and though more are forgetting it everyday, we must make sure the youth of the world are aware of what really happened during 1 940-1945. Stephen Fry was excellent as was Lena. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Rebecca VZH I really enjoyed this movie. During this time where so many people want to minimize the holocaust and the plight of the Jewish people, we need films like this to remind us of the horrors of WWII. The film was somehow lighthearted while still giving us a glimpse of the Poland fifty years after the end of the war. My only constructive criticism is I wished the characters were better introduced. Maybe if we saw them in NYC and had a bit more backstory, we would have connected with the characters sooner. I still would recommend the film. You will laugh and cry. You will get angry. Its a rollercoaster of emotions. Go see it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Chloe An incredibly touching film. Dealt with challenging themes in a very smart and thoughtful manner. Loved the acting. Look forward to reading Lily Brett's novel that the film was adapted from. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Robert C Writing, acting, directing all above average. Very good story line. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review theatre maven Intense drama should not be called a comedy. Great acting by Dunham & Frye. Horrific that this really happened. Never forget.
