Verne Gay Newsday Fun, lively, imaginative — with a whiff of Disneyfication. Rated: 3/4 May 22, 2024 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) Gatwa is magnetically watchable and not technically gay as a sexless alien, but also, come on. His chemistry with Gibson works, if anything, a little too well. May 17, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Ncuti Gatwa’s full radiance and considerable charisma is on display in every scene. May 15, 2024 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent If the episodes are mostly forgettable, Gatwa, the first black Doctor and the first openly queer actor to take on the role... is the opposite. May 30, 2024 Full Review Erin Maxwell LA Weekly/Village Voice The newest Doctor assures an injection of much-needed vigor, as these episodes promise to be more vivacious and slightly more demented than previous outings, with far more to say about the state of the world, without blatantly stating it. May 19, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …the lack of any real suspense, tension or danger feels like a major problem…smug guys explaining the universe to silly girls doesn’t cut it anymore… Rated: 2/5 May 16, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Tomas D The new doctor is as refreshing to watch as the Matt Smith era, the snow falling and Susan twist's character appearing in each episode can be compared to the crack in the wall for season 5. I don't get why there's so much criticism. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Audience Member I grew up watching Classic Who. I watched it again with my kids when it came back. Lord knows I've tried to like this new version but as nice as the new lead may be this iteration of The Doctor is portrayed as weak, thick, over emotional and constantly supprised. The pacing is also all over the shop owing to the need for shallow emotional moments that add nothing to the story. The viewing figures don't lie despite what RTD might try to tell you. Infact the only good thing to come from the Mouseification of Dr Who is an new found appreciation of its wobbly settled, styrofoam baddie source show and it's wonderfully melodramatic adventures of a silly time lord in a police box. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Andrei D Great Doctor, decent companion, good setups if somewhat derivative, the fast end of the episode solutions do not always work Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Ben 3 Some people will like it, the majority won't. And I think that was RTD plan. He wanted to separate the fanbase that he had created to bring in 'modern fans'. I have a feeling this soft reboot won't last long. Most people have heard of doctor who, even in America, so trying to separate your fan base is a bad decision as not everyone is interested in time travel and space. The people that are, have heard of doctor who. The series itself is extremely poor, bad writing, bad acting, bad directing, all in all its awful. If you're somehow new to doctor who and this is your first season watching I really encourage you to watch Matt Smiths doctor or David Tennant, you will find the show in general much more likable and engaging. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Patricia L Ncuti brings such a wonderful, vibrant energy to this regeneration of the doctor. The stories are much stronger than recent years and bring both heart and humor and monsters in a way Doctor Who has always meant to. Millie Gibson makes an amazing companion and the story beats allow the audience to follow along but still keep us guessing. What a wonderful addition to New Who! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Vance M Wow, this turned out to be my favorite season ever. I've been watching since I was nine years old and have always been a Tennant fan. The show has suffered from inconsistent tone and writing in the past, we forgive it and remember the best episodes. But this season has just been winner after winner. I was expecting it to be 'good' and got 'amazing' instead. The vibrancy is contagious. I love this Doctor's approach, he feels much warmer than the cynical Doctors past. Now, I love the classic vibe of 'lovable curmudgeon' that past Doctors have given off. It makes sense for a centuries-old genocide survivor to be a bit jaded. But Ncuti is a refugee and survivor himself, and I think he brings a whole other dimension to the role. This Doctor shows how you can be a survivor and it can make you all the more determined to bring joy and light into the world. It reminds me of the very best moments with David Tennant. I am Scottish, and just as Peter Capaldi has a special place in my heart, it made me super happy to see Scottish-Rwandan Ncuti Gatwa wearing a kilt in one of his early scenes. And can I just say, the use of music has been a real treat. Did you see the episode with Maestro?? My god, what a phenomenal character! They were HILARIOUS to watch! Their energy is incredible. I hope they show up again just like The Master! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
